For the most part, drivers will move to telematics if it saves them money. I don't think you need to dig much deeper. Many people claim to hate Wal-Mart - but they shop there because of the (lower) prices. People are willing to give up something (e.g. privacy) in order to get something (e.g. enjoyment of using Facebook) if they believe the trade-off is fair.
